Jeanie’s Obituary

Jeanie Lynn (Weaver) Helstrom, age 59, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 5:40pm at home in Olathe, Kansas.

Her Celebration of Life services were held Saturday, February 1, 2020 in Olathe, Kansas, at Living Hope Church of the Nazarene, and Saturday, February 15, 2020 in Kent, Washington at Hillside Church of the Nazarene.

Jeanie Helstrom, the daughter of Jerry and Donna (Hickerson) Weaver, was born on December 28, 1959 in Kent, Washington. She attended Kentridge High School and graduated in 1978. She attended Northwest Nazarene College and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 1983. Jeanie then attended Nazarene Theological Seminary to acquire classes that would prepare her for overseas mission work.

Jeanie worked at a local drug store during high school, played accompaniment piano and sang in recruitment groups to fund college, worked as a bank teller as a newlywed, taught kindergarten through third grade classes prior to having children, was sent as a global assigned missionary to Sweden for the Church of the Nazarene, then taught private piano lessons to over 40 students while she homeschooled her own two daughters.

Jeanie married Brian Helstrom on August 13, 1983 in Kent, Washington. Two weeks later they moved to Kansas City, Missouri to attend seminary. She volunteered at her local church leading the children’s choir, playing piano for services, and singing in the choir. Jeanie was a member of the Church of the Nazarene her entire life.

She launched into homeschooling her daughters, Meagan and Tori, as a sacred privilege and responsibility. While the family traveled for Brian’s job, they visited all 51 U.S. state capitols. Their work also took her to 22 countries. She lived for God and poured her life into her family and friends. She took it upon herself to mentor over 30 young women these last few years.

Jeanie understood and valued the gift of relationship with God and with others. She helped lead a small group in her home for 9 years. She hosted 6 people at different times for longer stays in the basement. She met with women for prayer, to walk, or just to talk. She took advantage of opportunities to live her life to the fullest. She believed that life could actually be “on earth as it is in heaven”, meaning healed, healthy, whole, and blessed. Her family and friends were her highest earthly treasures. She was fiercely passionate about the things she believed in and even more so, about the people she loved.

Jeanie is survived by husband Brian Helstrom of Olathe, Kansas; daughters Meagan Helstrom of Boise, Idaho and Victoria Helstrom of Pleasant Hill, Ohio; Washington State parents Jerry and Donna Weaver, brothers Jay (Linda) Weaver, Randy (Sonya) Weaver, Neil (Marcy) Weaver, in-laws Bob and Yvonne Helstrom, Marla (Scott) Vinzant, Kari (Karl) Meier, and many extended family members.
